Real life dating dilemmas can disillusion even the most hopeful of people. If you have been stood up, lied to, cheated on, led on, then you have probably given up on dating in the real world and moved on to the seemingly greener pastures of the world wide web. You fill up a a few of their forms, you think up a quirky screen name, you create an enticing profile, and finally, you make new friends. Your previously shattered dreams of finding a partner and of having long-lasting love and companionship have been glued back together by online matchmaking. And you live happily ever after... right?
The Internet offers a new playing field with millions and millions of singles, but finding your soulmate online can still be as horrifying as in real life. Sure, there are some who luck out on their first few attempts, and you're probably expecting the same thing to happen to you. But think again. Internet dating horror stories plague the world wide web each day. The most common Internet dating horror stories are those about the first face-to-face encounters. There are stories where a guy would end up meeting his mother on their first date after they've exchanged very sexual emails or where a woman would end up going out with her best friend's husband. These things happen when people are not immediately honest with one another when they begin to correspond. The lesson to learn here is that if you're willing to pursue meeting and dating people through the Internet, then you must be honest. But there's a flip side to honesty. While it is admirable, there is such a thing about being too honest. People make the mistake of revealing too much, especially when it comes to personal details. Don't give out unlisted digits, your street address, or your private emails just like that. You might just end up with a prankster or worse, a stalker.
The perils of Internet dating are out there, so do not allow yourself to become a victim. Always be true to yourself, yes, but still, practice with your online pursuits. |
